Inspection News:
The New Florida wind mitigation form OIR-B1-1802 (REV. 01/12) is planned to be released around February 1st 2012.
Some big modifications to include:
Wind Mitigation
New roof?
If you are considering replacing your roof, make sure you are aware of the new Florida legislation that was passed October 1, 2007. The new legislation, which became effective October 1, 2007, requires three main things. All re-roofing projects must include upgrading the way the roof deck is attached to the roof trusses in order to achieve the current minimum standard of protection.
Most counties now require the installation of a secondary water barrier when your home is re-roofed. The purpose of this product is to reduce water damage during a hurricane or tropical storm.
Houses valued at over $300,000 and residing in the Wind Borne Debris Region (including all of Broward and Dade Counties and most of Palm Beach County) are required to have the roof-to-wall connections strengthened to meet the current minimum level of uplift protection.
Consider having a wind mitigation inspection completed on your home by Southern Code Specialties. Wind Mitigation credits have saved our customers hundreds of dollars on their premium. The Wind Mitigation inspection will consist of checking the building features of your home such as roof to wall connections, secondary water resistance features, the roof geometry, roof covering, deck attachment, nail size and spacing’s and whether you have opening protection for doors and windows. A wind mitigation inspection generally cost about $100. and about 40 to 50 min. to complete.
